On the corner of Willis and Ghuznee Streets - in the heart of Wellington city, you will find "Epic" - a stylish, friendly and upbeat café owned and operated by Rod Walker – a legendary barista and all round 'good fella' who enjoys a yarn with enthusiastic cyclists.
Epic has a surround balcony with outdoor heating and a warm, earthy interior. The walls play host to changing feature artists, thus ensuring there is always something new and interesting to survey while you sip away on your exceptionally made Havana coffee.
French doors open out on to the deck so you can enjoy those legendary Wellington summer days. Once they arrive….which must be any day now. In the meantime the doors provide protection from gale force winds and rain.
As well as outstanding coffee, Epic also boasts a great range of freshly made giant muffins, friands, cakes, (the red devil chocolate mud cake looked very tempting!), biscuits and very yummy salads. Epic also offers an all day breakfast menu – delicious, well presented and very reasonably priced. – You can enjoy toast and spreads (from $3.00) fresh fruit salad, muesli, the old fave' bagel with cream cheese and jam ($5.00) (as well as a choice of other toppings!) buttermilk pancakes, french toast, omlettes, eggs benedict, florentine and montreal….and the list goes on……. There are also vegan and gluten free options - double thumbs up Epic! But wait, there's more…… If you call in on Mondays you will get two meals for the price of one! Good on ya Rod!!
The non caffeine drinkers will enjoy the chai lattes and hot chocolates – made with the same standard of care as the coffee (a very important feature for non caffeine addicts!) and there is also a full range of herbal teas, juices and soft drinks.
The service at Epic is top notch – friendly and relaxed, yet very efficient so you don't have too much waiting around before getting back out on that training ride – although this café is an inviting way to spend a Sunday morning or afternoon, or any day of the week where you can get away with procrastinating from training or work.
Epic is on the corner of Willis and Ghuznee Street (right after you come out of the tunnel!) and is at the base of "Hotel Quest on Willis". It is open 7 days a week, 7am till 5pm. Give it a whirl!!
