The coffee ride spreads its wings with Albina Press Café in Portland Oregan with numerous Kiwi's spending time here as apart of Team Rubicon Cycling Team.
I chose this place as it was recommended to me as I was seeking a better coffee than Starbucks can offer and I was after your typical laid-back coffeehouse to chill out at in the middle of an easy recovery training ride.
I walked in and immediately thought this looks like a great place to hang out and it reminded me of café's from back home in New Zealand. The service was friendly and easy going.
The coffee was amazing. The cup art was perfect too – an apple of white and tan accents, floating on a perfectly smooth brown crema. You can't but not help check out the trophies from the National Barista championships. Their barista Billy Wilson placed 3rd in the USA for 2005.
If you drop in for a visit on a rainy day sit at the bar stools next to the windows so you can stare out and watch the world go by. If you visit on a nice day pull up a chair on the sidewalk and check out the mural, "Sunflower Life Cycle" painted onto plywood panels on the north face of the building. Free Wi-Fi is available so you can do some work or study while enjoying your coffee. Overall I will definitely become a regular at this café when back in Portland/
