Cycling Otago's first race of the year was the Greenfield Classic, a 55km handicap.
Riding off scratch ex New Zealand track representative Shane Melrose was too strong for the rest of the field including his fellow scratch markers who could not maintain contact. Winning the race by 1 minute from limit marker Jan Brosnahan Melrose showed the same sort of dominance he presented before Christmas.
A sprint from right out of the history books saw Brian Turner take third from Dave Stott with Geoff Keogh 5th and 2nd fastest time.
Amy Pearce won the novice race from Alysha keith and Troy Taylor leaving Colton Lambert to take fastest time.
