A brilliant evenings riding - perfect conditions, the best Christchurch riders have had for a long time with most riders doing significantly faster times than last week and many setting PBs.
The big news of the evening was Michael Vink blasting the 1994 course record of Brian Fowler's (20:24) to pieces with a blistering time of
19:42 which equates to an average speed of 48.8 kph! Most people thought the old record was unlikely to be broken as the road surface is a lot rougher now than it was in the 1990s.
But several other records were also broken - Annaliisa Farrel set yet another new women's masters record of 23:55, Karen Farrell set a new women's supervet+ record of 28:26, and Hamish Schreurs set a new men's junior record.
Gary Ferguson again setting a new men's supervet record, this time at 22:31, down from 22:55. Brilliant efforts all round.
The updated records are as follows:
Junior Vanessa Rolton 24:41 20/10/98
Intermediate Rebecca Bailey 23:35 15/03/94
Senior Annaliisa Farrell 23:01 15/01/02
Masters Annaliisa Farrell 23:55 16/03/10
Veteran Tracy Clark 25:10 8/12/09
Super Veteran Shirley Rolston 27:03 14/02/06
Super Veteran + Karen Farrell 28:26 16/03/10
Junior Hamish Schreurs 22:55 16/03/10
Intermediate Michael Vink 19:42 16/03/10
