Dean in Argyle for Two More Seasons
28 Dec, 2009

Top Kiwi professional Julian Dean looks set to ride out his carear with US Team Garmin Transitions after signing on for a further two seasons.  The sprinter come lead out man finished 2009 as the only rider in the Pro peloton to complete all three Grand Tours, thus making him an invaluable team mate to his GC ambitious leaders.

Team leader Christian Vande Velde and Daniel Martin have all signed contracts that will keep them in team jerseys through 2012 while Dave Zabriskie has signed a contract extension through as far as 2013.

Vande Velde, who's ridden to back-to-back top-10s at the Tour de France and who's expecting more in the upcoming season will be especially comfortable with the long term line up at Garmin Transitions as he looks to podium in the Tour before retiring.

"I've come a long way with Team Garmin-Transitions in a short time," Vande Velde said in a team release. "I'm incredibly proud of what I've done as part of this team and I'm excited to see what the next three years hold."

While the team has lost the services of Bradley Wiggins in a long, drawn-out drama in a move to Sky, the core of the squad remains intact.

In addition to the trio of Zabriskie, Vande Velde and Martin, longtime captain David Millar and sprint ace Tyler Farrar will keep the team on solid footing.

"We're poised well for 2010. Our roster is strong and versatile, with some of the world's best riders returning to us, and the addition of others," said Jonathan Vaughters, CEO of Slipstream Sports. "This year we will look to build on Tyler's success by adding leadout guys. We've added climbers to help Christian in the mountains and we've rounded out our classics team. With Christian, Dan and David signing on the next few years, we've built a foundation that we will be able to enhance in years to come. Looking ahead to 2010, we expect to be competitive throughout the year."
