At the World Track Cycling Championships in Manchester Hayden Godfrey of Christchurch rode the series of races of his life to become the latest Kiwi to don the coveted World Champions Jersey.
The Omnium is a 5 race series including a 200m Time Trial, Points Race, Scratch Race, 3000m Pursuit and 1000m Time Trial.
After a blistering 10.5 flying TT Hayden won the scratch race and after a 1.03.9 Kilo had a nine point winning lead at the end of the event.
Hayden's ride is even more remarkable as he only received confirmation he could ride days out from the event and had been training on the slow and outdoor Denton Park in Christchurch.
