Winning Cyclists Ahead Of A Growing Pack
Less than a minute after Dayle Cheatley won Saturday's round-the-mountain-bike race, his fiancee Catherine Sell was the first woman to cross the finish line.
The Wanganui couple both finished the 150km TelstraClear Taranaki Challenge in less than four hours and scooped $500 each for their wins.
They were thrilled.
"We were pretty happy with that, it was a bit of a bonus really," said Cheatley after the race.
He said that towards the end of the race the pair played a bit of cat-and-mouse as they jostled for position.
"I was pretty happy with that time though."
The couple trained together about once a week and Cheatley said they planned to return next year.
His time was 3hr56min22sec while Sell finished the race in 3h57m04s.
Event director Selwyn Brown said the day was a huge success.
