A couple of weeks ago on Halloween night, featured some interesting racing at the Dirt Derby scene in Austin. A number of racers turned out with Halloween costumes to provide entertainment. I dressed up as Count Dracula on wheels with cape and fangs. This was how I raced for 30 minutes under the spot-lights raging and snarling at on-lookers and fellow racers. Another racer who dressed as a big black and white cow was another amusing character who moo moo'd his way around the course. I actually beat the cow rider for Best Costume and won a nice prize for the effort. It was a great night although temperatures have dropped quite markedly at night (now below 50 degrees F) making for some nippy riding.
If anyone from New Zealand makes it over to Austin and has their mountain bike with them, the Austin Dirt Derby is the place where the action and good times are. It is a well run weekly event that goes throughout the winter (finishes in March 08). Photos are courtesy of Glenn Simmons (http://glennon.smugmug.com/).
