Geox Present Team to World Press
13 Feb, 2011
Today the new GEOX-TMC team held its official presentation in Padua, Italy. The runway was set up in the Gran Teatro Geox theatre, the scene where all the riders “worked it” on their bicycles as if they were on a real catwalk, introducing themselves one at a time to an audience made up of team sponsors, officials and members of the national and international press.

GEOX Chairman Mario Moretti Polegato served as in-house master of ceremonies, flanked by the other two major sponsors of the team, Alessandro Scaglione representing TMC TRANSFORMERS, and FUJI, represented by Armin van Hoogstraten, general manager of Advanced Sports International - Europe. Also present in support of the team were DIADORA, SERVETTO, FOOTON, CARRERA and CANTABRIA INFINITA. Other sponsors were also on hand to celebrate the start of a promising season.

13 out of 23 riders  who make up the 2011 roster participated in the event, led by General Manager Mauro Gianetti and team managers Stefano Zanini, Fernandexz Joxean and Angoitia Sabino, as well as the team’s entire technical staff. One by one they made their way to the stage: Matthias Brandle, Gianpaolo Cheula, Juan Jose Cobo, Daniele Colli, back in the saddle after knee surgery; David De la Fuente, Fabio Duarte Arkaitz Duran, Fabio Felline, Noe Gianetti, Rafael Walls and Marcl Wyss. For the Grand finale the crowd went wild as a video of their finest victories illustrated the introductions of Denis Menchov, winner of Giro d’Italia 2009 and two editions of the  Vuelta España, together with the King of the 2008 Tour de France, Carlos Sastre.

Although they could not be present, Tomas Alberio, Mauricio Ardila Cano, David Blanco, Marco Corti, Xavier Florencio, David Gutierrez, Dimitriy Kozontchuk, Marco Kump, Matteo Pelucchi and Daniele Ratto were introduced as part of the team via video. Their absences were justifiably excused. In fact, this week, these riders are all facing the challenge of the Tour of Qatar, and in the next few days they’ll be lining up for the Tour of Oman, loyally led by team manager Daniele Nardello.

Other VIPs on hand to present the team included President of the Italian Cycling Federation Renato Di Rocco; President of the UCI – World Tour Cycling Council Vittorio Adorni; Amedeo Colombo and Gianni Bugno representing the ACCPI.

“This is a sport practiced by millions of fans throughout the world -
stated the Group’s Chairman and founder, Mario Moretti Polegato - They all keep a close eye on the technological evolutions in this sector, and I’m sure that Geox and our innovative DNA can contribute to this field. Sometime down the line we will transfer the benefits we’ve gained from our research in the field to the products we sell to our everyday customers.”
