Bennett Scorches into Race Lead
27 Jan, 2011

Trek - Livestrong bound George Bennett (Team Cardno) stamped his authority on the Trust House Tour of Wellington on the toughest of stages finishing up the famed Admirals Hill.  Bennett finished fifth on the stage 1.02 behind the winner.

With temperatures into the 30's the riders came out to race hard.  In taking the Yellow Jersey Bennett also claimed the U23 lead from James Williamson.  The stage was won by Australian Nathan Earle of Team Genesys who finished just fives seconds ahead of New Zealand's climbing ace Joe Cooper (Team Mico).

The Nelson youngster says he's not in a position to cruise just yet as he sits just 38 seconds ahead of Australian Patrick Lane who finished with Bennett at the summit of Admirals.  Bennett says he feels in no position to be able to cruise just yet and would sleep better if he had a bigger lead, but it is potentially enough to take it through to the last stage.

Today's third stage is the longest of the tour - 162.5 kilometres from Masterton to Pahiatua and back.
