28 Jan, 2010

Young Kiwi cyclist Michael Torckler delivered his biggest win to date in New Zealand Stage racing today in taking out stage two of the UCI Trust House Classic.  The U23 climbing ace put on a show of brilliance up the infamous Admirals Hill in Marsterton which surely was the fruits of his successful season racing in the hot bed of cycling in Spain last season.

Torckler sensing the danger the lead break of Clinton Avery (Cardno), Lachlan Norris and Joseph Lewis (Drapac Porsche), Heath Blackgrove (Team Solway), Mike Northey (Bici Vida), Michael Vink (Subway-Avanti) Mark Langlands (R+R) and Jay Thompson (Fly V Australia),  Jack Bauer (Trust House Team), Wesley Gough (Team Solway) and Australian Mark Frendo (Shortis Cycle) had at the 80km mark launched solo in search of the group, riding like a man posessed he rode straight through the break after catching it taking only Lachy Norris with him on the final ascent up Admirals hill eventually beating the Australian by five seconds across the line.

Tomorrows third stage will offer no rest for the field as they will not doubt battle the strong winds that dominate the trek through to the Pahiatua Track from Marsterton.
