Paul Reid's De Rosa Protos
12 Dec, 2005

The 2006 DeRosa Protos is a full carbon frame and fork weighing in at 1350grams. This actual bike was on display at the Las Vegas Interbike show and Paul was lucky it was his size, 56cm.  De Rosa has stated that this is the first one in the Southern Hemisphere.  Its decked out with Campag record but with a few changes being Stronglight Pulsion Cranks as used by the French BRIOCHES LA BOULANGERE team in this years TDF and Zero Gravity brakes which are 50% lighter than Record.

Paul has also fitted Easton EC90 bars and stem. The stem is an all carbon one-piece monocoque design with carbon faceplate with innovative collet style steerer tube clamping system. The wheels are the new Mavic Ksyrium ES with GP4000 tyres.

Benny at Cycle City built the bike after reading all manuals 3 times. The final weight was just 7kgs with pedals, cages etc all fitted. "The noticeable difference when riding this bike, besides the weight, is it's descending and cornering" says Paul.  "It feels like it is glued to the road even when powering around sharp corners on the flat".

Other riders will have plenty of opportunities to view this bike as it spends most of its time outside coffee shops on Auckland's waterfront!
