Trentin Saves First Week for OMQS
12 Jul, 2014
With no dedicated team leader for the sprints aboard the bullet train that is Omega Pharma Quick Step Matteo Trentin took matters into his own hands as the shredded peloton bore down on the finish line in Nancy on stage seven of the Tour de France.  Duelling against none other than the man in Green Peter Sagan (Cannondale) Trentin even congratulated the young star as they crossed he finish line in what looked like a dead heat.  Technology is a great thing an on observing the finish frame came the result that the humble Italian had in fact beat Sagan to the line by a little over one centimetre!
An action packed and dangerous final 10 km awaited the select peloton as they reached the outskirts of Nancy, first it was Tejay Vangarderen the GC leader for BMC that got himself hooked up with a Movistar rider and hit the deck eventually losing over a minute despite a desperate chase by his team mates, then it was the turn of Talansky the US leader of Garmin Sharp who looked to be the victim of a sprinting Simon Gerrans as the Australian moved from right to left hunting a gap to move through.  Fortunately for Talansky there was no time lost just a few square cm of skin.
