The Wairarapa region is once again been considerate as the venue for top cycling event later this year.
The new North Island Cycling Series has today confirmed Trust House as the title sponsor for the inaugural five round series which takes place this year. The series will be run as teams and as well as top New Zealand riders, the series will cater for women and master riders.
Trust House has been a long supporter of cycling in New Zealand, sponsoring in the past the international Men’s Cycle Classic, the Women’s World Cup and Women’s Tour of NZ.
The Series will be the only teams based racing series in the North Island, riders must enter as a team, this gives them the opportunity to create a team with work mates, other club riders etc.
With five races in the greater Wairarapa over five rounds between September and December, riders of all abilities will get a taste of high level competitive ‘teams’ racing only seen in large domestic tour events like the international New Zealand Cycle Classic in the Manawatu and the Benchmark Series in the South Island.
The Team Series will give riders of all ages the chance to experience riding with support vehicles and a race convoy in a professionally run series. With different grades to suit all levels, the series offers a challenge to all competitive cyclists. Whether you’re an elite rider, up and coming junior, veteran competitor or just a keen weekend warrior there is a grade for you.
“As organisers of the only international cycling events in New Zealand, we believe that a series like this in the north island will help young New Zealand riders to race in a “teams” environment, very much like the UCI races that we stage in New Zealand and will prepare them for further races overseas.
Wairarapa reputation as cycling destination is well known and I am sure the circuits I have prepared will be welcome by all participants. The series will also provide masters with the opportunity to compete against other teams in a friendly social grades but also competitive”. Said Race organiser Jorge Sandoval
