It forms another part of the burgeoning coverage of road and track cycling by Sky Television who also provided live coverage of the BMX World Championships in Auckland last year.
BikeNZ High Performance Director Mark Elliott said it was excellent news for the developing profile of the sport.
“Sky has been a strong supporter of cycling and we’ve worked with them in the past for delayed coverage of the track cycling world championships,”he said.
“To move to live coverage is outstanding and I know it will be a hit for cycling fans in this country.
“Our team has had a challenging build up while we work around construction at the new Avantidrome but we are targeting some strong performances. These will provide the platform on which to build over the next five months to produce medals at the Commonwealth Games.”
The Championships at the Velodrome Alcides Nieto Patino in Cali will screen daily live from 12.50pm on Thursday, 12.20pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and 9.20am on Monday all on SKY Sport 2.
The riders then return to take on the rest of the New Zealand talent at the national championships at the Avantidrome in Cambridge on 13-16 July, which forms the final chance for track riders before nominations for the Commonwealth Games.
