Bauer Bursts into Jayco Herald Sun Tour Yellow Jersey
6 Feb, 2014
It was a New Zealand 1 -2 at the opening stage of the Jayco Herald Sun Tour as Garmin Sharp's Jack Bauer scorched through the 2.5 course to claim honours one second ahead of Tom (Scud) Scully riding for the NZ national team.
"Tom is a pretty awesome bike rider - he's just come off the track, so I knew he'd be one of the men to beat today," Bauer said."It's a bit of a pity to knock a fellow Kiwi off the top perch, but it might as well be another Kiwi doing it."

"Like everyone says, he's (Gerrans) in the form of his life and there's no better bike rider from this side of the world at the moment." Bauer said.

"Obviously he's the man to beat and he has a strong team around him but so do we and we can do exactly the same thing. We definitely have a few cards to play."

Garmin Sharp have a few cards to play with Nathan Haas looking to claim his second title at the event but Bauer commented that he "will see  what he can do to hold onto the jersey early on before we hit the hills. Obviously the stages are fairly lumpy, especially that final at Arthur's Seat. Don't get me wrong - we come here to win always."
