GMC Enters Development Team for NZCT
21 Nov, 2013
Top New Zealand rider and multi-national road champion Gordon McCauley, has
entered the first New Zealand base team for the 2014 NZCT Cycle Classic – Tour
of Manawatu.
McCauley, who needs no introduction to cycling fans in New Zealand, has entered
a GMC Development team made up of youngsters coached by the men himself.
The GMC Development team has been set up to provide an additional pathway
for aspiring road riders in New Zealand with the aim to help young riders to
realize their potential.
“Our goal is not to be riding the Tour de France, our role is a development team
and if we do our job well, ideally our riders will go on to bigger and better teams,
with the view of riders turning professional and hopefully representing New
Zealand at Olympic and World Championships” McCauley said.
A young team guide by the very own Gordon McCauley, made up with riders such
as Scott Ambrose, an U/19 New Zealand representative who have the credentials
to follow his mentor after a solid 2013 season in Europe. Ambrose won races in
France and Switzerland as well as earning many top places in other races.
Logan Mort is a former winner of the King of the Mountains classification in the
Tour of Tahiti and will be in his element on the last day of racing up Saddle Road.
Young Masterton rider Jack Sowry will ride his first ever international tour, with
Richard Johnston and Gordon McCauley completing the team.
The NZCT Cycle Classic starts on Wednesday 29 January 2014 with a time trial
and finished with a top of the mountain stage five days later at the top of Saddle
Hill in Manawatu.
Entries for the event closed on the 12th December 2013.
