Kiwi Michael Torckler Slips on Utah KOM Jersey
8 Aug, 2013

BISSELL ignited the action minutes into the opening stage of the Tour of Utah when Michael Torckler attacked just kilometers from the start in Brian Head. Torckler and Chris Jones (United Healthcare) dominated the race action on the 179 kilometer stage where they were able to maximize a ten minute lead over the chasing peloton. The two worked well together even negotiating the intermediate contests of the day with Torckler taking the two KOMs and Jones taking the sprint points. The two survived until the second of three finishing circuits in Cedar City when the chasers were eager to set up their sprinters for the finish. Greg Van Avermaet (BMC) jumped away just 600 meters from the line and was able to hold his position for the win. BISSELL’s Chris Baldwin finished 8th. With maximum points on the day’s climbs, Michael took the KOM jersey. Torckler was happy with his work in the break. “This is very special. This is really my first result since my car accident. So it’s cool. I am really excited.”
