Contador on the Attack
13 Jul, 2013

Alberto Contador and his Saxo Bank - Tinkoff team were the biggest winners of the day at the Tour de France, perhaps more so that actual stage winner Mark Cavendish. The Spaniard and his blue train pulled back 1:09 on Froome who had a stranglehold on the yellow jersey going into stage 13 when they dropped the hammer in the strong crosswinds splitting the Tour to smithereens on what was to be a calm day in the Tour. Contador who has been struggling to find his peak in the first half of the race reversed his loss from the individual time trial and now sits just 2:45 back in third place with Dutch hope Bauke Mollema (Belkin) in second at 2:28. Mollema and team mate Ten Dam were also to the fore on the days stage finishing with the Contador group.

"Being 3:57 down or 2:45 down doesn't change much overall," Contador admitted afterwards. "I still have to go on the attack in the Alps but we have cut the minute that I lost in the time trial. The Tour is tough but it's not over yet and a thousand things could still happen. For now, I just have to rest because tomorrow is another day."
