Kiesanowski Gains New Teamate on TIBCO
6 Jun, 2013

Pescadero, CA – Team TIBCO is pleased to announce its newest addition to the squad: Lauren Stephens. Stephens is a Dallas, Texas native who has put up strong results this year, including a win at the National Criterium Calendar’s Charlotte Presbyterian Crit, as well as earning a spot on the podium with a 3rd place finish in the overall GC standings at the NRC Joe Martin Stage Race. She is currently ranked top 6 in both the NCC and NRC individual standings, and took 7th in Sunday's Philly Cycling Classic.

"We are delighted to have Lauren join Team TIBCO,” said Team Founder and Director Linda Jackson. “She is an incredibly talented, smart young rider that has achieved top national results while working as a full-time math teacher.”

“We are happy to be able to provide Lauren with the environment and racing experience that will help her develop into a top international cyclist,” said Jackson.

Stephens is 26 years old and in her fifth season of racing. Growing up, Stephens spent time enjoying endurance sports, likely influenced by her grandfather who was a cross country running coach. Her high school running career propelled her to a spot on the Southern Methodist University running squad, but after her first year she decided to move on and finish her schooling at University of North Texas.

“I started riding a bike for fun and met my future husband who encouraged me to try triathlons and bike racing,” said Stephens. “He is my coach, mentor and best friend. I wouldn't be where I am without him.”

Stephens enjoys hard races and while she says her strength is endurance, she can be a contender both on the climbs and in a sprint.

“[I’m looking forward to] continuing to grow as a cyclist and learning the tricks of the trade with Team TIBCO,” said Stephens.

By day, Stephens is a full-time high school math teacher who commutes via bicycle daily and spends her weekdays training near White Rock Lake.
