Greipel Repeats on Stage Five
6 Jul, 2012

There would have been one thought lingering in the mind of German sprinter Andre Greipel after his stage four victory yesterday, could he have taken World Champion Mark Cavendish on the line.  The Lotto Belisol sprinter put that thought to rest on today's 196.5km journey to Saint Quentin as he was once again lead to perfection into the sprint by his team mates and in particular Kiwi Greg Henderson riding in his first Tour.

With the stakes raised and all of the sprinters teams seemingly thinking they were in for a chance at glory, there were five lead-out trains closing in on the four leaders of the day as the riders raced into the final km of the da,y the pace was furious with Jan Ghyselinck (Cofidis) launching himself from his breakaway companions only to be caught 50 metres from the finish after a full day in the lead.

"I'm happy because I won another stage in the Tour de France," said Greipel. "There was a bit of a crash and I was behind it at 3k to go, but Greg Henderson was waiting for me. The Lotto Belisol train was working perfectly today. It was a hard sprint, I think it was one of the hardest sprints I've ever done."
