Sagan Goes Two From Three
4 Jul, 2012

The exceptional Mr Sagan (Liquigas Cannondale) took his second stage win in just his first Tour de France today in the tough uphill battle into Boulogne Sur Mer as the race entered France for the first time this year.  Sagan who is somewhat of a specialist in uphill finishes bettered another star of the future in Edvald Boasson Hagen (SKY) and Peter Velits (Omega Quick Step) in the finale with Yellow jersey Fabian Cancellara bringing home fourth place in the same time.

Nearly stealing the show on his way to a calculated stab at the yellow jersey was Frenchman Sylvain Chavanel.  The aggressive riding former French Champion attacked the peloton as the race hit 2km to go and went out to an 11 second lead which would have been ample to land him the yellow jersey at the line, but such was the force of the BMC and Radioshack teams in the chase that he was brought back into the fold as the sprint took place.

The final 20km was marred with several crashes with the five mishaps throwing the race into disarray with chase groups forming all along the course.  The first off the falls will be a blow to the dominant team SKY with the abandonment of strong man Kanstantsin Siutsou.
