BikeNZ Stage Omnium Coaching Workshops
9 Nov, 2011

BikeNZ is getting back to the grassroots, (or concrete tracks) with Omnium Coaching Workshops designed to develop the capabilities of riders and coaches alike.

Junior riders and regional coaches will have the opportunity to engage with and learn from BikeNZ High Performance Coaches Stuart MacDonald and Ross Machejefski in eight workshops across the country in November and December.

With the change in the Olympic format there is a greater emphasis being placed on all-round track riders through the inclusion of the Omnium.

These half day workshops are designed to increase the skills of the under 17 year old riders, as well take coaches through coaching techniques for these events.

Stu MacDonald is now the Menís Assistant Track Endurance Coach. BikeNZ poached him from the UK where he was the national under 17 coach for the Great Britain Cycling Team. Since being on board with BikeNZ he has been in charge of ensuring that there is depth within the high performance program and that there is a bunch of riders hot on the heels of those already leading the squad. He is coach of Shane Archbold who won silver in the Omnium at the 2011 UCI Track World Championships in the Netherlands.

Ross Machejefski is a newly appointed Talent Development Junior Track Coach. Previously he was working as the Cycling Southland coach. Ross lead the very successful 2011 UCI Junior Track World Championships campaign that saw the BikeNZ team net a record 10 medals. He completed the UCI Level 3 coaching qualification at the UCI headquarters in Switzerland this year.

Each of the Omnium Workshops is a half day session comprised of both theory and practical elements and provides a fantastic opportunity to up-skill.

To attend, please register by emailing Jessica Massey (Jessica.massey@bikenz.org.nz)  Make sure you indicate which session you would like to attend, we encourage you to sign up early as numbers are limited at each workshop.  There will be a charge of $30 per person.
