The SUBWAY® Pro Cycling team is looking to repeat Nick Lovegrove’s win last year when it lines up in Saturday’s Round the Mountain Classic in Taranaki.
Lovegrove had his biggest win in SUBWAY® Pro Cycling team colours last year when he won the event and SUBWAY® Pro Cycling General Manager Hayden Godfrey says the team will have to use their efforts sparingly to record a similar result this year.
“With large team numbers entering recent events the team will have to race tactfully and smart to repeat last year’s result. A lot will depend on how many riders turn up from other teams. If we are outnumbered it makes it harder, not only for us but for others in the race, so they will have to race accordingly.”
SUBWAY® Pro Cycling’s Westley Gough, Pete Latham and Tom Hubbard will line up beside Lovegrove.
With the country’s richest one day race purse up for grabs, the race celebrates its centennial this year and its status as New Zealand’s second oldest classic event (after the Christchurch-Timaru race).
Godfrey said the event was another step towards building for the Powernet Tour of Southland in early November.
