Van Uden Takes Another Title
15 Aug, 2011
Roman van Uden of PureBlack Racing has won the XO Communications Sprint Jersey at the 2011 Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah.  PureBlack Racing displayed their aggressive attitude again, which has seen van Uden in most breaks in the tour, in today’s 171.6km fifth and final Stage.  The PureBlack Racing team dominated much of the early action allowing van Uden to take the first and second intermediate sprint points on offer, securing him the overall Sprint Jersey for this year’s tour.

PureBlack Racing’s Glen Chadwick was the team’s best GC performer finishing in 16th overall.  The six-day 409 mile race, a UCI 2.1 sanctioned stage race for the best professional cyclists in the world, is deemed America’s Toughest Stage Race.

Carl Williams, Sports Director of PureBlack Racing said, “The boys rode incredibly well today and really dictated the early action.  We really did the basics well today and were rewarded.  Roman had an outstanding race and was incredibly well supported by the rest of the team. It was awesome to see PureBlack Racing riders Tim Gudsell and Mike Northey taking second and third place behind Roman in the first sprint to get a clean sweep.  Glen also had a fantastic race and was his top 20 result was well deserved.”

New Zealand’s PureBlack Racing was one of 16 professional cycling teams in the field, which included 10 teams registered in the United States, as well as teams from Canada, Colombia, Italy, Great Britain and Spain. Five of these teams including HTC, Radioshack, Garmin Cervelo and Cadel Evans BMC team have just competed in the Tour de France.  A total of 120 riders from 20 countries made up the star-studded field.

“The team has performed fantastically all season and we were thrilled to gain an invitation to this event in our debut season.  This was certainly the toughest challenge for the team to date as it is America’s toughest course and it attracts some of the world’s best cyclists.  This is a fantastic way to end our final US race of the season,” said Greg Cross, Business Director, PureBlack Racing.

Sergio Luis Henao Montoya of Gobernacion De Antioquia-Indeportes took the Stage 5 win and Leipheimer took the overall victory in addition to the KOM jersey.
