Costa Brings Celebration to Movistar Team
10 Jul, 2011

Portuguese rider Rui Costa has won the eighth stage of the Tour de France in style after a 180k breakaway to Super-Besse and has recorded the first ever Movistar Team victory in cycling's most important event in the world, 18th success of the season for the "telephone squad."

Overcoming all possible difficulties in a season marked by tragedy with the death of team mate Xavi Tondo and hospitalization of Juan Maurico Soler in Switzerland last month the Movistar Team continue on their sensational season performance.  The Portuguese rider was chased home at one point by Vinokourov who was out in search of his first Tour yellow jersey, but t was Belgian Champion Phillipe Gilbert who romped home in the final km to overcome the Kazakh and take a close second place to claim the Green jersey once again.

Norwegian Tour leader Thor Hushovd showed his class once again in retaining his grip on the yellow jersey on the mountainous stage coming home in the same time as Tour favorites Evans, Contador and Schleck.
