The successful Bike the Trail event is on again this year with registrations now open online. The event is a family friendly cycling event starting in Upper Hutt and follows the Hutt River Trail downstream to Petone.
The annual event attracts over 1,000 people of all ages and is a popular way for families to ride together as the entire course is flat and away from roads.
Bike the Trail is a free event and you can pre-register online at www.bikethetrail.co.nz or register on the day.
This year people can choose to do the full Bike the Trail ride (25km) from Harcourt Park in Upper Hutt or the shorter 15km ride, which starts at County Lane (off Fergusson Drive), in Silverstream. Both rides end at Hikoikoi Reserve in Petone where a gold coin barbecue will feed hungry riders and support a local community group.
“Bike the Trail is an awesome event that showcases one of the many family-friendly cycle rides we have in the region,” says Ellie Davidson, Team Leader Activation. “What started as a one-off event promoting the opening of the Hutt River Trail has continued as an annual event that attracts both locals and those from the wider region.”
Free transport will be provided back to both starting points for participants and their bikes.
