New Zealand’s Commonwealth Games sprinters had a successful start to their racing preparations for Glasgow.
Three of the sprinters completed a clean sweep of the podium in the keirin final at the UCI Keirin Cup competition at the outdoor velodrome in Trexlertown in Pennsylvania where the squad is based.
Eddie Dawkins, Sam Webster, Matt Archibald and Ethan Mitchell all won their first round races with Dawkins edging out Archibald in the semifinal where both progressed, while Webster won the second semi ahead of Trindad’s Njisane Phillips with Mitchell missing out.
Dawkins dominated the final to win by Webster and Archibald in the all-Kiwi podium.
The squad begins weekly squad racing for the UCI Cup category one competition at Trexlertown with a number of international teams expected to compete.
The squad remains until heading to the final camp indoors at Bordeaux in france at the end of the month.
Meanwhile sprinter Stephanie McKenzie will join the BikeNZ development riders to compete in a five-day competition in Adelaide this week.
