Bike HQ Road and Pegasus CC Jnr Development Session
17 Jul, 2008 - Hamish Ferguson

For the last year now Russell Ward, Kevin Searle and Brian Thompson have been running a very successful junior development programme at in the Pegasus Cycling Club supported by Bike HQ  Road aimed at building the numbers of young riders racing in Canterbury. They aim at three levels U17, U15 and U13 with people coordinating riders at each level and making sure riders who aspire to race at Club Nationals in U15 and U17 are well prepared before heading away.

At Bike HQ Road we held a session tonight where Russell, Craig Sharratt and myself took the time to provide some guidance on training, equipment and everyone did a 1.5km sprint on the Tacx Fortius Windtrainer. Craig and I joined in and we both got smashed by a 14 year old who sustained 410 watts for 2.09 sec. A future pursuit star in the making.

Over the winter the emphasis has been on participation but as the club season kicks off the programme will focus on road Nationals in Wanganui and Pegasus winning the club points trophy for the fourth year in a row! In the Summer there will be a big push to get the riders into track cycling.
