Yates can contest Taupo race despite ban
Banned cyclist Jeremy Yates will be allowed to contest in the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge today despite organisers privately opposing his entry.
Yates, 23, was suspended from the international professional circuit on Thursday for two years by the Belgian Cycling Union.
The Athens Olympian and former junior world champion tested positive for abnormally high levels of testosterone in March and was later fined 750 Swiss francs ($NZ925) for failing to supply a second sample.
The Hastings rider's ban takes effect from next Thursday, allowing him to race in the 160km Avanti Classic section of the cycle challenge in Taupo today.
