Introduction
Cycling is a recreational sport with great appeal to many age groups and levels of ability. Whether you're a competitive cyclist or just keen to improve your fitness and try something new, North Harbour Cycling Club provides support, coaching and a variety of events to ensure you'll enjoy cycling and experience all it has to offer.
History
North Harbour Cycling Club was formed in 1984 from the former Takapuna and Rangitoto clubs which had been operating since the 1930's. Rangitoto had come into being when North Shore and Birkenhead Clubs amalgamated.
Aims
The aim of the club is to promote the sport of cycling both on the road and track, to support cyclists in their endeavours and to provide interesting and challenging events to suit all ages and abilities during the year.
TRACK CYCLING
Track cycling in Auckland is held at the Manukau Velodrome from October—March. Track cycling is an excellent way of improving basic cycling skills as well as providing exciting and challenging racing . Track bikes are available for hire for a small fee and coaching is provided across all grades.
Tuesday Criteriums Circuit racing, fast and furious on a small 1.1 kilometre circuit around North Harbour Stadium in Albany . The Criteriums are run on a Tuesday evening with four grades: 6.00 p.m. Novices 6.15 p.m. C Grade 6.35 p.m. B grade 7.00 p.m. A grade These are great for a quick fast fun training ride with good competition.
ROAD RACING Click Here for Location Map Racing from the Kumeu Community Hall in the picturesque West Auckland country side, we have the option of a number of race circuits to suit the riding requirements of all club members. We offer all kinds of event - road circuits, time trials, hill climbs and 3 stage events. Race registration is usually at 9.00 am at the hall, with a 9.30 am start to the event.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
Spinning During the winter months we run an Indoor Spinning Session, this is an ideal way to maintain Winter fitness and spend time with other cyclists without getting cold and wet.
Membership
There are 3 grades of membership.
Club Membership - for social riders who wish to compete in club and Auckland events only. National License - issued by BikeNZ - this is for those wishing to compete seriously in NZ. International License - issued by BikeNZ - This is for those wishing to compete in NZ as well as outside it. Technical Licenses for officials i.e. coaches, commissaires
Entry fees to club events are typically $3-$10 Registered riders receive an Auckland Racing Calendar detailing all events taking place in Auckland during the year along with major national events.

ADMINISTRATION North Harbour Cycling Club is affiliated to:
BikeNZ, our national body situated in Wellington . Two members of North Harbour , together with two members from each of the other Auckland cycling clubs make up the Auckland Regional Centre, a group which meets on a monthly basis and is the liaison tool with BikeNZ in Wellington .
National Track Cycling Championships are held in February each year and National Club Championships are held in October. |
