Official Newsletter of the Tinwald Cycling Club - 2004/2005
It seems hard to believe that the 2004/2005 season is already one month old, the club has been fortunate to have had some excellent fields for the beginning of the season although the race on the 17th October Mead Motors/ Rangitira Foodbar road races had to be cancelled due to the flooding on the Boundary Rd Block and on some of the corners it was very slippery.
As you are all aware the Cycling Club has a new vehicle this was needed as the old Race Secretary caravan had to be replaced. Funding for this was received from the Ashburton Charitable Trust, so with all the Under 17 cyclists that the club has now, it was decided to purchase a van that could be used as a Race Secretary vehicle and for transportation for any cyclist who wish to race in either Timaru or Christchurch. With the club falling short of approximately $3,000 the club has been selling advertising and now the van is getting all the sponsors names put on it by Ashburton Signs.
When the Annual General Meeting was held in September we did not have a Club Captain, this position has now been filled so if you have any problems or issues rather than approach the volunteers that help run the club PLEASE go and see Shona Proctor. After you have been to see Shona then as a club we can sort any problems out.
At Labour Weekend the Cycling Club had a small team travel to the Hokitika for the New Zealand Road Cycling Championships. The team was made up of 10 Under 15s, 3Under 17s, and 4 seniors. Congratulations must go out to all of the cyclists who finished their respective events, with a special mention going to Jason Christie (2nd), and Cameron Wylie (4th) in the Under 15 Boys with Sam Barltrop and Troy McDowell finishing in the top 15.I am sure that this is only the start for all of you who attended the nationals, I know that it will benefit yous for the years to come.
Presentations are usually held around 4.30pm after each road race either at the Clubrooms or the Sponsors Hotel/ Bar, if you have finished in the prizemoney and you do not tell the Club Secretary that you wont be attending the presentation, you will forfeit it. This will go back to the club and put to the Presentation Attendance prizes at the end of the season.
A reminder to all cyclists that your club subs are now due Seniors $50, Under 17 $15, (this includes the $10 BikeNZ fee for a membership card), Social Couple $15, single $10.
If anyone would like to take a National Licence out so they can compete outside the Mid South Canterbury area National $60, Under 17 $30(Taking into account the $10 membership fee is deducted from this.
Remember all cyclists who won trophies last season and have still got them at home please return them to the Secretary as soon as possible so the club can get them all engraved and back in the trophy cabinet.
Any Cyclists who have Bikes, Gear or any Clothing for sale this is the place to put it so contact the Club Secretary so your advertisement can be put in the next newsletter.
